History of Boulevard

The story of Boulevard arose out of a desire to love God and love our communities. In 2006, the leadership of Covenant Presbyterian Church (in the Bucktown neighborhood of Chicago) began intentionally praying about how the church could better love Chicago. A conviction came out of these prayers that one of the primary ways was to plant new churches that identify with particular neighborhoods and proclaim and embody the Gospel of Christ in those places. Lincoln Square Presbyterian Church was Covenant’s first church plant; it began Sunday worship in September 2009.

In September 2016, a group of around 25 adults and almost as many kids from Covenant and Lincoln Square began meeting every other week to pray and plan for a second new church in the Oak Park – Austin area. About a year later, Boulevard Presbyterian Church launched weekly worship on September 24, 2017. For our first few years, we held worship services in a rented sanctuary on Scoville Avenue in Oak Park; we also rented office space in a storefront on Lake Street in Austin. God in his grace provided us our current building at 607 Harvard Street, where we have been since March 2021.

Boulevard is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church in America and located within the bounds of the Chicago Metro Presbytery.
