Children's Ministry
Boulevard’s Children’s Ministry supports and encourages families in the spiritual care and discipleship of their children. We welcome all children in our ministries, and seek to create an environment in which they are invited to wonder at God’s great love for them in Jesus, experience their intrinsic value as God’s image-bearers, and discover their role in God’s great redemptive story.
Sunday Mornings: Children are always welcome in our worship services; we value them as part of the church family and enjoy what they organically bring to our services. For parents who desire, we also offer the following classes for children:
- Nursery (Ages 0–3): The church nursery is open for the entire worship service. In addition to free play, children are invited to worship God by participating in music & movement time, hearing a children’s Bible story, and engaging in a response activity.
- Children’s Worship (PreK4–2nd grade): Children are dismissed about ten minutes into the worship service, and return to the sanctuary just before Communion. During Children’s Worship, children participate in age appropriate liturgy and worship music, engage with a Bible story or Scripture passage, and participate in a response activity, such as a craft or game. We use a variety of materials in children’s worship, including The Jesus Storybook Bible and Tiny Truths Illustrated Children’s Bible.
- Catechism Class (3rd–5th grade): This class meets the first three Sundays of every month. Children are dismissed about ten minutes into the worship service, and return to the sanctuary just before Communion. Children participate in age appropriate liturgy and worship music, and engage with Scripture passages discussed in the Westminster Catechism using the New City Catechism curriculum.
All of our children’s ministries on Sunday mornings are staffed with both paid staff and volunteer leaders, all of whom have passed a recent criminal background check. We require a minimum of two volunteer leaders to be in a classroom at all times as an additional layer of child safety.
Other Activities: In addition to Children’s Ministry classes on Sunday mornings, we have social activities throughout the year so that kids can deepen relationships with one another and also with people from other generations at Boulevard. In the summers, we typically host a week-long Backyard Bible Club for kids at the home(s) of our church attenders. Through our ministry partnerships, there are periodic service opportunities that are appropriate for children to participate in with their families.
